Overview

Marvel Tools is a curated suite of AI-powered tools within the Marvel AI platform, an open-source digital infrastructure designed to support education worldwide. It provides practical solutions for the day-to-day needs of educators and academic institutions.

Educators often rely on multiple tools to create content. This fragmentation creates lengthy and inefficient workflows as well as increased errors. Marvel Tools aims to streamline these processes, saving time and enabling advanced customization directly within a single workspace. By making the platform intuitive, versatile, and integration-ready, educators are empowered to achieve more with less effort.

Objectives

Star Bullet Point

Enhance Educational Equity: Ensure educators everywhere have access to the same high-quality tools and resources, regardless of access to finances.

Star Bullet Point

Streamline Educator Workflows: Provide a workspace that feels simple yet powerful, automating routine and time-consuming tasks.

Star Bullet Point

Promote Lifelong Learning: Equip educators with tools that adapt to their evolving needs and the changing landscape of education through integration of the latest educational methodologies and technologies.

Star Bullet Point

AI-Assisted Refinement: Enable educators to refine content dynamically using AI solutions that are transparent, unbiased, and respectful of privacy.

The Challenge

Limited Accessibility, Low Usability

  • The previous version only allowed for basic editing and minimal prompt refinements.
  • Customization and advanced editing capabilities were severely limited.
  • The studio did not reduce dependency on external platforms and increased manual effort.

Approach

Since my team began work on the project after the first iteration of Marvel Tools, initial user research had already been conducted. From this research and user interviews, critical insights were uncovered into how educators organize and manage their work.

After reviewing the research material, my team performed competitive analyses of similar AI education platforms, such as Khanmigo and School AI. We also conducted a thorough audit of the current design, documenting gaps in user flow and functionality.

Process

In order to produce an interactive and intuitive tool studio, we needed to redesign the rich-text editor, AI tools and chat capabilities, as well as integrate a version history. The redesign also brought up questions about how to streamline prompt generation as well as how to make the interface more efficient.

It was also imperative that the redesign not only regarded user goals, but also accounted for business goals and technical considerations.

Project Goals

To keep our deliverables streamlined and focused, we structured our work using Scrum methodology with two-week sprints. Since there were first iteration designs and components already in place, we started our sprints with mid-fidelity wireframes. For newer features, user flows were mapped out beforehand. With each sprint, one to two features were prioritized at a time.

Future Impact

In a rapidly evolving landscape, Marvel Tools brings a powerful contribution to the education system. It maintains the efficacy of the learning process by fulfilling the demands of constant innovation and creativity, and it streamlines the effort of performing tedious administrative tasks. Yet most importantly, the application of this platform empowers educators to reclaim their ultimate roles as mentors and support systems for their students.

Looking forward, we will conduct extensive usability testing of a private beta of Marvel Tools to a select group of educators and institutions. Collected feedback will be used to validate ease of use and accessibility, as well as identify areas of improvement.

We will also continue to design for more sophisticated features:

  • Automated grading with personalized insights: Streamline the grading process while providing feedback to students.
  • Student performance dashboard: Offer real-time analytics to monitor and improve student outcomes.
  • Plagiarism detection: Ensure academic integrity through advanced plagiarism detection.
  • Predictive analytics for student performance: Identify at-risk students and provide actionable insights to enhance their learning journey.
  • AI-powered forum: Facilitate collaboration and problem-solving among students and educators.
